The Calendar view shows all your team's items that have either a Start date, a Deadline, or both.
Start dates and deadlines can be set from the top menu in the Item preview, or — even faster — by dragging and dropping an item from the Items view onto a specific date in the calendar view. In the popup that then appears, select if the drop should indicate a start date, a deadline, or both (a same-day activity).
From the toolbar, you can apply filters to only show a subset of the items for any given month. From here, you can also show and hide closed items.
Providing start dates and deadlines for items can provide structure, promote accountability, and enable effective tracking and resource allocation:
Clarity and focus:
Start dates define when work on an issue should begin, ensuring that tasks are addressed in a timely manner and preventing them from being overlooked or perpetually postponed.
Deadlines establish a clear target for completion, providing a sense of urgency and motivation for the team. They help to prioritize tasks and allocate resources effectively.
Progress tracking and accountability:
With defined start dates and deadlines, it becomes easier to track the progress of each issue. You can monitor whether tasks are being completed on schedule and identify any potential delays or roadblocks.
Deadlines promote accountability. When individuals or teams are responsible for meeting specific deadlines, they are more likely to take ownership of their tasks and ensure timely completion.
Resource Management:
Start dates and deadlines help in resource allocation. By knowing when tasks are scheduled to begin and end, teams and project managers can effectively allocate resources (personnel, budget, equipment) to ensure that issues are resolved efficiently.
Risk Management:
Setting deadlines allows for better risk management. If deadlines are consistently missed, it may indicate underlying issues such as insufficient resources, unclear requirements, or lack of expertise. Identifying these issues early on enables proactive intervention and prevents further delays.
Communication and Collaboration:
Start dates and deadlines facilitate communication and collaboration among team members. Everyone is aware of the timeline for each issue, promoting coordination and ensuring that everyone is on the same page.
Continuous Improvement:
By analyzing the actual completion times against the planned deadlines, organizations can identify areas for improvement in their issue management process. This data can be used to refine future estimates and optimize workflows.
