The notifications bar serves three purposes:
It shows your Notifications
It shows the Activity feed
It shows the Team view
You can switch between the three different views by clicking on the drop-down menu in the notifications bar's toolbar.
Notifications sent to you will appear here. They are triggered by the events of other team members on items you are Subscribed to. For instance, if a team member comments on an item you are assigned to, a notification will pop up here. Click on the notification to view that item in the Item preview.
The activity feed shows a timeline of all (major) activities across all your team's items. When a new item is added, when someone is assigned to an item, when a status changes, a priority is set, and so on, it will all be shown here.
As such, the activity feed is a great way to quickly get an understanding of what happened when you were away. This view can also be used to see what items are currently getting the most attention.
The team view lists all members of your team.
